Topsfield Tree Planning Committee is awarded
$5,000 Urban Forestry Challenge Grant
posted: 03/01/08

Daniel and Grace Peabody, owners of Eastgate Garden Design, volunteer their time as members of the Topsfield Tree Planning Committee. This committee is responsible for advocating the importance of preserving and caring for the town's public trees. In the fall of 2007, Daniel and Grace wrote a grant application for the National Grid Partnership Challenge Grant and submitted it to the Department of Conservation and Recreation. The grant would potentially fund several projects outlined in the application entitled, "A New Voice for the Public Trees of Topsfield." The projects include, reforming a five-member Tree Planning Committee, developing local tree ordinances, striving for Tree City USA designation, and starting a public tree inventory.

Daniel and Grace are pleased to announce that the DCR has approved their application for the projects and are looking forward to working with them further to successfully meet their goals. The Topsfield Tree Planning Committee is looking for additional members to volunteer their time and work with Daniel and Grace to complete the grant projects and future, long-term endeavors. If you are interested in joining, please feel free to call them at (978) 887-3769 or email topsfieldtrees@gmail.com.
